First
Suburbs Coalition Idea Home
Raytown
The First
Suburbs Coalition Idea Home is a
pilot project coordinated by the Housing
Choices
Coalition of Greater Kansas
City aimed at demonstrating how post-World War
II housing in first suburban neighborhoods can
be revitalized and reinvigorated through remodeling
and rehabilitation.
Using
ideas and floor plans inspired by the Mid-America
Regional Council’s (MARC) First
Suburbs Coalition Idea Book, contractors will
remake the home at 6236 Manning St. in Raytown from
a three-bedroom, one-bath ranch into a more roomy
two-bedroom, two-bath home with a master suite and
a remodeled kitchen. Members of the Home Builders
Association of Greater Kansas City (HBA), a
Housing Choices Coalition partner, will provide remodeling
and construction services. Dan Norburg, president
of Norburg Contracting Inc., and HBA President Mark
Hoffman, president of Hoffman Construction Inc.,
will oversee the project. The contractors anticipate
construction will be finished prior to the opening
of the HBA’s 2006 Spring Homes Tour April 30.
Financing assistance is being provided by Housing
Choices Coalition partner Fannie Mae.
The
Housing Choices Coalition is a public-private partnership
among the HBA, Fannie Mae, MARC, the Kansas City
Regional Association of Realtors and the Kansas
City Area Development Council. The mission of the
coalition
is to expand housing choices throughout metropolitan
Kansas City by supporting policies aimed at building
successful neighborhoods; raising consumer awareness
of the need for more housing choices; building
acceptance for regulations that promote broader choices;
and
influencing the private sector to create more housing
choices.
